LOWER EAST SIDE — Police have identified the man they believe attempted to rape a woman in her apartment early Friday morning.

Police are searching for Robert Adams, 41, who they say followed his victim into the building near Norfolk and Rivington Streets around 12:20 a.m. and up a flight of stairs.

The suspect then shoved the woman through her apartment door and groped her, police said.

He tried to remove her clothes, but the woman fought him off and he fled, police said.

Police described Adams as standing at 5-foot-9 and weighing 150 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
