LOWER EAST SIDE — A man tried to rape a woman after following her into her building early Friday morning, police said.

The suspect trailed his victim into a building near Norfolk and Rivington streets at about 12:20 a.m. He followed her up a flight of stairs and then shoved her through the door of her apartment and groped her, according to the NYPD.

He then tried to remove her clothes, but the woman fought him off and the man fled, authorities said.

Police released a surveillance video Friday afternoon showing the suspect walking on a street.

He is described as being about 28 to 34 years old, standing 5-foot-10 and weighing roughly 170 pounds, police said. He was last seen wearing a brown waist-length jacket and black jeans.
