QUEENS — Baseball fans will get a chance to meet baseball superstar Darryl Strawberry during the grand opening weekend of DICK’S Sporting Goods' first Queens store on March 11, the chain announced.

The retailer will open its location at 73-25 Woodhaven Blvd., on the border of Forest Hills, Rego Park and Glendale, on March 8, followed by grand opening celebrations held March 10 to 12, the retailer said.

The former New York Met and New York Yankee and four-time World Series champion is expected to be at the store on Saturday, March 11 from 1 to 3 p.m., the chain said. Those who want to meet "Straw" will need special wristbands which will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of the event, according to DICK'S.

On Sunday, March 12, from noon to 2 p.m. the store will also hold "Ready, Set, Roll!," a skill challenge in strength, agility, and speed for kids ages 6 to 15, and throughout the weekend, customers will get a chance to win a number of prizes, the retailer said.

“We hope the community joins us for the celebrations that we have planned,” said Lauren Hobart, the company’s executive vice president, in a statement, adding that she hopes the store “will allow us to better-serve the athletes and outdoor enthusiasts who live [in the area]."

The Woodhaven Boulevard location will be DICK’S second in New York City. Its first store opened on Richmond Avenue in Staten Island in 2011.

The company said last month that it was planning to fill approximately 100 full-time, part-time and temporary positions at its new Queens store, which replaces Sports Authority that closed last summer following its bankruptcy.
