QUEENS — Sporting goods chain Dick's is currently looking to hire about 100 employees for its first Queens store that is expected to open sometime in March, the company said.

The store, at 73-25 Woodhaven Blvd., on the border of Forest Hills, Rego Park and Glendale, will replace Sports Authority which closed last summer following its bankruptcy.

Dick’s Sporting Goods said it's looking for "exceptional applicants, passionate about sports or the outdoors” to fill approximately 100 full-time, part-time and temporary positions at the store that will feature athletic and outdoor apparel, footwear and gear for team sports, fitness, camping, and fishing, the company said.

“Ideal candidates will draw on their personal experiences and in-depth knowledge to guide, inform, equip and inspire our customers,” the chain said in a statement. "Associates will benefit from competitive pay, store discounts and the opportunity to work with the best sports and outdoor brands.”

The chain also said that it will mark the opening of the new store with “a three-day Grand Opening Celebration with a variety of giveaways and special appearances in-store.”

The store is located within a shopping complex which also includes The Home Depot, Trader Joe's, Staples and Michaels art supply store.

Last year, the site received local residents' ire when, after the Sports Authority closed, its parking lot turned into a "dumping ground" full of electronic debris and food waste. The trash was later removed.

Shoppers coming to Trader Joe's also complained that there was not enough parking space at the complex after the site in front of Dick’s Sporting Goods was fenced off for construction.

This will be Dick's second location in New York City, after the chain opened its first store in Staten Island in 2011.
