EAST NEW YORK — The armed man fatally shot by officers Thursday afternoon in East New York was a 17-year-old Bed-Stuy resident, police said.

Officers shot and killed Kadeem Torres just after 4 p.m. after he took out a revolver and fired at them near the Cypress Hill Houses, according to the NYPD.

Torres had been arrested four times prior to the shooting, according to a police spokesman.

He was arrested for criminal possession of a weapon in October 2016, and again for criminal possession of marijuana in December 2016, the spokesman said.

Torres' two other arrests were sealed, according to the spokesman.

Prosecutors did not have the details of Torres' prior arrests available.

The officers from the 75th Precinct were responding to reports of a potential retaliatory gang shooting near Fountain and Blake avenues when they saw Torres running out of the public housing development, police said.

They followed him two blocks to Logan Street, where the officers got out of their patrol car and confronted him, police said.

Torres then took out a silver, .32 caliber revolver and shot at them, police said.

Officers returned fire and chased him to the rear yard of a home at 840 Belmont Ave., where one of the officers followed him into an alleyway, police said.

The officer fired at Torres, striking him in the chest, police said.

Torres was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

One officer was taken to Jamaica Hospital for observation, police said.
