Share Your Gripes, Ideas and Dreams for City Streets at DOT Public Meetings

ELMHURST — Help the city create a "transit map" and share your input on anything from bus routes to bike lanes at upcoming public meetings, with an Elmhurst meeting scheduled for next week.

The Department of Transportation began hosting the public workshops last week, with meetings scheduled across the city through March.

The goal is to solicit ideas and even complaints from residents on general transportation issues, officials said. Most public input meetings are geared towards specific projects, but this is a more comprehensive look at the future, they said.

“As we engage with and listen closely to communities in every borough over the next two months, we will be able to thoroughly assess their transit needs," DOT Commissioner Polly Trottenberg said in a press release.

They're seeking "ambitious goals" from residents and their ideas on how day-to-day travel can improve.

Meetings began Feb. 7 in Flatbush and end March 7 in Harlem.

Officials will be at I.S. 77, 976 Seneca Ave. in Ridgewood Monday night from 6 to 8 p.m., and at Fordham University, Campbell Hall, 441 East Fordham Rd. in the Bronx on Wednesday, Feb. 15, also from 6 to 8 p.m.

A meeting will be held Wednesday, Feb. 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. in Elmhurst Hospital, at 79-01 Broadway.

Meetings are required under a new City Council bill and were lauded by elected officials.

“As New York City continues to grow, we need thoughtful planning and improvements to our transportation infrastructure in order to meet our shared goals of safety, equity and sustainability,” said City Councilman Brad Lander in a statement.
