Peralta to Take Questions on Move to IDC in Town Hall Meeting

By Katie Honan | February 1, 2017 4:11pm

JACKSON HEIGHTS — Sen. Jose Peralta is hosting a town hall meeting to address community concerns about his choice to join the Independent Democratic Caucus in Albany.

The meeting will be held at the Jackson Heights Jewish Center, 37-06 77th St., on Friday, Feb. 3, from 6 until 7:30 p.m.

It's open to anyone in the neighborhood who has questions about his change to the IDC, which was formed as an independent group in 2010 by Sen. Jeff Klein of The Bronx along with three other senators.

There are now eight members: Klein, Diane Savino of Staten Island and Brooklyn, Jesse Hamilton of Brooklyn, Marisol Alcantara of Upper Manhattan, Tony Avella of Queens, David Valesky and David Carlucci, who represent parts of upstate New York.

After the move was announced last week, Peralta released a statement saying he made the move to bring more "progressive change" to the district.

His spokesman said the meeting will be to "address concerns of constituents about [the move] and talk about legislative priorities."
