If you've always considered your weekly commitment to waiting two hours on line for mimosas and eggs benedict at one trendy Brooklyn eatery or another a "hobby," you're in luck.
New York City — the home of conventions for every interest and industry, from comics to tattoos — is hosting its first-ever BrunchCon this March at the Grand Prospect Hall in Park Slope.
Launched in Los Angeles last year, the food and drink festival centered around the favorite late-morning meal will feature fare from more than 50 vendors, including the Lebanese bakery Manousheh, the coffeehouse chain Cafe Grumpy, and the Hong Kong-style egg waffle purveyor Wowfulls.
When you're not munching away, you can patronize the open mimosa bar, recover from the previous night's drinking binge in a shadowy "hangover lounge" with hair-of-the-dog cocktails, browse brunch-themed products like gold-plated flasks at a market, and perhaps even partake in some speed dating? (You could meet your "brunch bae," the event's website suggests.)
General admission tickets for the March 26 festival are selling for $55 until Feb. 15, when the price will jump to $60. First reported by Time Out New York, the event for attendees ages 21 and older begins at 11 a.m. and ends sharply at 3 p.m.
(Organizers refuse to deal with any drunken stragglers, it appears: "While we love you all, you've gotta leave at 3:00 PM," the ticket page says.)
