By Rachel Holliday Smith | January 27, 2017 1:31pm | Updated on January 30, 2017 8:36am

CROWN HEIGHTS — A 24-year-old man was arrested for attacking a 38-year-old man with crowbars on Eastern Parkway, then trying to steal his girlfriend’s dog, police said.

Kenneth Sapp, 24, faces multiple charges including robbery, menacing and attempted assault stemming from the incident, according to court documents.

Sapp came after the victim around 10:20 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 22 outside 828 Eastern Parkway, grabbing his jacket and cell phone and threatening him with two crowbars, prosecutors said.

The victim fought back with a five-foot metal pipe, police said. Sometime during the altercation, Sapp also made a grab to steal the victim’s girlfriend’s dog, but was unsuccessful, according to authorities.

The 24-year-old was arrested a short time later and was formally charged Jan. 23, court records show. Police initially arrested the 38-year-old in the incident, police said, but prosecutors say charges have been dropped in his case.

It's unclear what set off the fight of if the attacker and victim know each other.

Sapp has been released from custody with a order of protection for the victim and is due back in court Feb. 28. His court representative from Legal Aid could not be reached for comment.
