Man Fatally Shot in the Head While Leaving Harlem Bodega, Police Say

By Dartunorro Clark | January 26, 2017 2:49pm

HARLEM — A man was fatally shot in the head as he left a Harlem bodega with his girlfriend, police said.

Several men were seen lurking outside Adnader Inc. Grocery, at 218 Saint Nicholas Ave., while Michael Riley, 22, was shopping inside with his girlfriend Wednesday around 8 p.m., the NYPD said.

When Riley, of Liberty, New York, walked out of the store one of the men pulled out a gun and fired a shot into the victim’s head, the source said.

The shooter fled the scene. Riley was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to the NYPD

It is unclear why he was shot or if there were any words exchanged before the attack, police said.

Wazir Alcidi, 29, a cashier at the bodega, said he rang the couple up prior to the shooting. He said he heard gunshot when they left.

“We heard the shots, I went outside and the guy was laying on the floor,” he said, adding there was a large pool of blood.

He said then someone came to him screaming, “Call the ambulance, call the ambulance.”

He said prior to the shooting the couple was in good spirits.

“He was laughing with his girlfriend,” Alcidi said. He said Riley “didn’t look like someone who was arguing” with anyone.
