CENTRAL HARLEM — A man was wounded in a broad daylight shooting in Marcus Garvey Park on Thursday afternoon, officials said.
The man, whose name and age weren't immediately released, was shot near basketball courts by West 121st Street about 1:40 p.m. but managed to walk about two blocks north until he sat down on the ground, NYPD and FDNY officials said.
"I heard two shots, 'Pop! Pop!' I wasn't sure if they were firecrackers. It wasn't that loud. Everybody started running," said a 32-year-old man who had been playing chess in the park and only gave his name as G.G.
"Then I saw [the victim] walking up. You saw the blood. He was bleeding from the chest. I was like, 'Did he just get shot?' He had on shorts and basketball attire. He was walking with other people," G.G. said.
He was taken to Harlem Hospital where he was listed in stable condition, an FDNY spokesman said.
The circumstances of the shooting weren't immediately clear.
