The ice cream of your childhood is back in the news.

It turns out Dippin' Dots, the treat made of tiny balls of cryogenically frozen ice cream that's popular at theme parks and zoos, has been the focus of new White House press secretary Sean Spicer's ire for years.

Spicer, who's been on the job for less than a week, has been disparaging Dippin' Dots for years, including tweets in 2010 and 2011 about the treat not being the "ice cream of the future" (one of the company's marketing slogans over the years).

Spicer even went on Twitter to inform the public about Dippin' Dots' bankruptcy filing

And four years later, in 2015, he complained that the company's couldn't even keep its stock of vanilla Dippin' Dots topped up — presumably at a Washington Nationals game since he tagged the team's Twitter handle.

All of this confection controversy prompted Dippin' Dots to issue an open letter to Spicer on its website.

"We understand that ice cream is a serious matter. And running out of your favorite flavor can feel like a national emergency!" Dippin' Dots wrote.

The letter goes on to offer an olive branch: "We’ve seen your tweets and would like to be friends rather than foes...We can even offer to treat the White House and press corps to an ice cream social."

If all of this has left you craving a frozen sweet treat, DNAinfo New York has rounded up some of the locations where you can find Dippin' Dots in the city:
