UPPER EAST SIDE — A man and a woman attacked Sephora workers with pepper spray when they tried to stop them from leaving the store with stolen merchandise, according to the NYPD.

The pair grabbed a number of perfume bottles from inside the Sephora at 750 Lexington Ave., near East 60th Street, and tried to leave the store without paying at roughly 5:30 p.m., Dec. 14, police said.

When two employees tried to stop the suspects on their way out, they dropped the perfumes and the woman sprayed both workers in the face with pepper spray before fleeing south on Lexington Avenue with the other suspect, police said.

The employees, a 24-year-old woman and 21-year-old man, were treated on the scene by emergency medical responders.

Police are asking the public's assistance in finding the suspects. It's not immediately clear why the NYPD waited until now to release information about the incident.

The suspects are described as being between 20 and 25 years old.

The man stands 5-foot-7, weighs 118 pounds, and was last seen in a black hat, black jeans, and a black bubble coat. The woman stands 5-foot-5 and weighs 135 pounds with long black hair. She was last seen in a purple bubble coat, blue jeans, and white sneakers.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
