PROSPECT-LEFFERTS GARDENS — A 23-year-old man who fled police in a stolen car has been arrested after he smashed the white sedan into a Rutland Road stoop, then tried to get away on foot, police said.

Officers pulled the man over at Parkside and Flatbush avenues just before 10 a.m. Monday for a traffic infraction when the 23-year-old driver took off in the car, driving north on Flatbush Avenue.

He then turned right on Rutland Road, driving recklessly and losing control of the car near the corner of Bedford Avenue, police said, where he slammed into a wall and stoop area in front of a townhouse.

After the crash, police said he tried to run away on foot, but officers caught up with him down the block. Upon taking him into custody, the NYPD discovered the vehicle had been stolen.

Images of the crash taken by a witness minutes after it happened show the wreckage of the Rutland Road house’s front wall and steps and the car’s caved-in hood.

The driver, whose name was not immediately released, has been arrested and was expected to be charged Monday afternoon, sources said.
