Pols Host Pedestrian Safety Town Hall After Jackson Heights Resident Killed

By Katie Honan | January 23, 2017 6:31pm

JACKSON HEIGHTS — Elected officials are holding a pedestrian safety town hall after a resident was killed while crossing the street last week.

The town hall will be held Wednesday, Jan. 25 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Jackson Heights Jewish Center, 37-06 77th St. — just a block from where Henry Boimel, 67, was struck and killed by a driver making a right turn on Jan. 18, according to police.

The driver, Dinesh Bhattarai, works for Uber but was not on duty for the company at the time, officials said. He was arrested and charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian.

Councilman Danny Dromm, along with Assemblyman Francisco Moya, Assemblyman Michael Den Dekker and state Sen. Jose Peralta, will be joined by representatives from the 115th Precinct and the Department of Transportation.

Representatives from Transportation Alternatives will also attend the town hall.

Residents can share concerns about safety and police enforcement, organizers said. For more information, call 718-803-6373.
