Nerds of Nostrand Avenue, rejoice!
A new comic book shop is opening soon in Crown Heights, and promises to be a place for fans and “comic creators” alike, said owner Dimitrios Fragiskatos.
Anyone Comics, located at 1216 Union St. and Nostrand Avenue, will open March 1, and will feature 600 square feet of comic books, graphic novels, T-shirts and trading cards — to start, Fragiskatos said.
Eventually, the longtime comics fan — who worked at Midtown Comics for a decade and has written and published two comic series himself — plans to open up the basement of the shop for gaming (Dungeons and Dragons sessions, perhaps) and studio space for comic book artists.
But nothing, including the exact lineup of comics he’ll carry, is set in stone, he said.
“Really, it’s up to the residents here to tell me what kind of store they want this to be,” he said inside the Crown Heights shop.
A native of The Bronx and now a Harlem resident, Fragiskatos said he chose the neighborhood because of its diversity, large population of families and proximity to young people-centric cultural centers like Medgar Evers College and the Brooklyn Children’s Museum.
“You have to cater to kids,” he said.
Fragiskatos hopes to create a lineup of weekly events and classes targeting the comic book crowd, with book signings and author talks on the list.
When it opens, Anyone Comics will be the only comic book store in the immediate neighborhood. Currently, Maverick Comics and Games on Parkside Avenue is the nearest comics store.
