QUEENS — Petco is planning to open its newest Queens location at the Rego Center Mall next month, the company said.

The 15,000 square feet store at 61-35 Junction Boulevard will replace Staples, which closed last year.

"Petco’s Queens-Rego Park location will celebrate its grand opening weekend on 2/24-2/26," Stephanie Wilson, a spokeswoman for the chain, said in an email Monday.

A poster in the window of the new location told passersby the store was "coming soon" and referred jobseekers to the company's website.

The location will feature a pet wellness center and grooming salon, as well as dog training and adoption events co-organized with the Petco Foundation adoption partners, according to Wilson.

"Petco is community focused and we typically open new locations in growing neighborhoods where other retailers are located, as we want to make sure our store guests have a convenient shopping experience," Wilson said in the email.

The shopping center includes a number of stores, such as ALDI, Toys "R" Us, Century 21 and TJ Maxx.

While several stores and restaurants recently opened at the center, including Chipotle and Kay Jewelers, Sears recently announced that it will close its Rego Park store after 20 years in the neighborhood.

According to the pet retailer's website, Petco has several other locations in Queens, including 91-11 Metropolitan Ave. in Forest Hills, 157-20 Cross Bay Blvd. in Howard Beach, 13311 20th Ave. in College Point and 7507 31st Ave. in Jackson Heights.
