THE BRONX — An NYPD officer has been indicted for drunk driving while responding to a 911 call last month, the Bronx District Attorney’s Office said Thursday.

Officer Richard Evans, 44, and his partner were investigating a noise complaint Dec. 8 on Webster Avenue near East 203rd Street when someone at the scene called 911 to say that Evans seemed drunk, prosecutors said.

When Evans returned to the 52nd precinct, two sergeants and a captain “found him unfit to perform his duties,” the DA’s Office said.

He was arraigned on charges of official misconduct and drunk driving Thursday and released on his own recognizance, according to the DA’s Office.

"Such irresponsible behavior is dangerous to the community he swore to protect and will not be tolerated," Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark said in a statement.

Evans has been suspended by the NYPD, police said.

He’s due back in court March 7 and faces up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted.
