NEW YORK CITY — A pair of thieves wearing night vision goggles swiped more than $100,000 worth of items from a Staten Island jewelry store, a day after trying to steal a safe from a Brooklyn clothing shop, police said.

Clad in black jump suits, the thieves first struck on Oct. 8 when they broke into the rear door of Angels World clothing store, at 5502 2nd Ave. in Sunset Park, and tried to take a safe from inside at about 3:40 a.m., the NYPD said.

They couldn't get it out of the building and left empty-handed, police said.

The next day, at 3:48 a.m., they broke into Fortune Jewelers, at 310 New Dorp Lane, with night vision goggles on and stole jewelry from five cases inside, according to police and the owner.

One suspect got into a vacant dry cleaner next door then broke through a wall and a metal door to get into the jewelry shop, the owner told DNAinfo New York.

They swiped diamond pendants, crosses and gold rosary beads, including pieces the owner made by hand, the NYPD said.

The robbers left the store and fled in a gold Oldsmobile Bravada driven by a third person, police said.

It's unclear why police waited so long to release information about the robberies.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
