The most popular baby names in New York City are Olivia and Ethan, officials said.

It was Ethan's second year in a row atop the rankings, released by the city's Health Department on Wednesday, that were based on 2015 data.

A total of 773 Ethans and 595 Olivias were born across the five boroughs in 2015, according to the city's tally of birth certificates.

The New York City-specific rankings of popular female names mirrors the Social Security Administration's nation-wide rankings, but local and federal lists of popular male names diverge significantly. Nationally, the city's most popular baby name for girls claimed the number two spot. The boys' names Jayden, Matthew, David, Daniel, Dylan and Aiden appear exclusively on New York City's top-10 list.

While the 10 most popular baby names of 2015 were strongly represented across racial and ethnic groups, each had unique preferences.

For boys, Latino families most often chose the name Liam, black families Noah, white families David, and Asian and Pacific Islander families Jayden. For girls, Latino parents picked most frequently the name Isabella, black parents the name Madison, white families Emma, and Asian and Pacific Islander families Olivia.

Among other naming trends the Health Department noted was the influence of celebrities and film characters.

Singer Ariana Grande's name came in at No. 24 on the extended list of popular girls' names, Kylie Jenner's at 43, and singer-turned-actress Aaliyah at 44.

The Biebs may have had an impact on the popularity of the name Justin, the 39th most common baby boy's name in 2015, and we have no doubt Leonardo DiCaprio was the actor parents had in mind when selecting the 89th most popular boy's name.

As for the movie characters that may have inspired new parents in New York City last year, those include Riley (#39 for girls) from Pixar's animated flick starring personified emotions, "Inside Out," and Leia (#136 for girls) and Finn (#141 for boys) from latest "Star Wars" film.

According to the Health Department, the number of births in New York City were down by 0.33 percent in 2015 compared to the previous year, dropping from 122,084 to 121,673.

Brooklyn had the highest birth count in 2015, with 40,982 births. Mothers gave birth to 26,848 newborns in Queens, 19,887 in the Bronx, 17,766 in Manhattan and 5,261 in Staten Island.
