7-Story Building Planned at Arepa Lady's Roosevelt Ave Site, Permits Show

By Katie Honan | December 22, 2016 10:06am

JACKSON HEIGHTS — Permits were filed this week to build a seven-story building at a Roosevelt Avenue commercial strip that's currently home to the beloved Arepa Lady and other stores.

The owners of 77-02 Roosevelt Ave. at 77th Street filed to build a mixed-use building on Dec. 20, according to Department of Building records.

The building will include ground-floor commercial, a community space and 44 apartments over five floors, records show.

The corner location is currently home to one-story commercial shops, including the famed Arepa Lady — which opened its first brick and mortar shop at the site in 2014 after operating out of a food cart. It is also home to La Chipotle restaurant, a soccer uniform store and Mohan's Tattoo Shop, from a famous Nepali tattoo artist, which opened in the space last year.

It's not clear what will happen to the existing shops. The construction permits had not yet approved by the Department of Buildings as of Wednesday.

A call to Vishal Arora, the CEO of 42-25 Realty which owns the building, was not immediately returned.

The story was first reported by Jackson Heights Post.
