Woman Robbed at Knifepoint for $4 Among 3 Crown Heights Muggings in One Day

CROWN HEIGHTS — Three woman were mugged within hours of each other in the neighborhood on Sunday, police said, two of them by a suspect holding a knife.

The first robbery took place on Montgomery Street and Troy Avenue around 1 p.m. on Dec. 18, police said, when a woman in her 60s was approached by a man in front of her apartment building who grabbed her purse from her hand and fled on foot.

The purse contained jewelry and money worth about $3,000, police said.

Later in the afternoon at 4:50 p.m., a 69-year-old woman walking near Kingston Avenue and Montgomery Street was approached by a man who held a knife to her neck and demanded money. The woman handed over $4 in cash and the man fled.

Two hours later at 6:40 p.m., a 22-year-old woman was walking on Crown Street near Kingston Avenue when a male suspect came up behind her, held a knife to her stomach and said “don’t say anything, give me what you have.” The woman handed over her purse, containing about $300 in cash. The man fled on foot, police said.

No suspect has been identified in any of the three robberies, but police are looking into the possibility that the two knifepoint muggings were committed by the same man, sources said.
