THE BRONX — A man was shot in the back and killed after being chased through Tremont Tuesday night, NYPD officials said.

Corey Smith, 24, was running beside an unidentified man when they he was chased down and shot near East 175th Street and Crotona Park North about 8:24 p.m., police said.

"A lady was standing on the corner screaming, 'Oh my God! Oh my God! Run! Run!" said a witness who didn't want to share her name.

"Paramedics came. They were pumping him and pumping him and pumping him, but he wasn't responding at all. He was face up on the ground. ... I think he was gone," the witness added.

Smith, of Soundview, was pronounced dead at St. Barnabas Hospital, police said.

The gunman immediately doubled back and fled down East 175th Street, police said. He hadn't been arrested as of Wednesday morning.
