100K LED Lights to Shine From Controversial Brooklyn Bridge Park Hotel

By Alexandra Leon | December 19, 2016 5:55pm

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — Brooklyn Bridge Park is about to get lit.

A holiday display with more than 100,000 low-energy LED lights will shine from the controversial new 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge, which is slated to open this February at 60 Furman St., over the next three weeks.

The display on the 11-story waterfront building will be visible from Brooklyn Bridge Park, downtown Manhattan, and the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges.

Visitors will also be encouraged to write down their intentions for 2017 on a 100-foot wall outside the hotel while streaming a holiday-themed Spotify playlist curated especially for the light show. Visitors can find the playlist by searching “1 Hotel Holiday” on Spotify.

The development at Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Pierhouse has drawn strong opposition from residents who say the hotel and 108 new multimillion-dollar condos going up at the site will “permanently disfigure the park,” according to a recent lawsuit

The display will kick off with a celebration on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., and the lights will be on every night through Jan. 8 from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m.

The first 300 guests to show up at Tuesday’s celebration will get free Swell bottles filled with Devocion coffee, cafe mocha or hot chocolate.
