Police Looking For Man Who Tried to Rob Woman in Fulton Subway Station

By Irene Plagianos | December 12, 2016 11:57am

FINANCIAL DISTRICT — Police are asking for help finding a would-be robber who tried to steal a woman's handbag as she was walking out of the Fulton Street subway station last month.

The 28-year-old victim was leaving the J train subway platform at about 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 16 when a man, seen in the video below, yanked the bag from her arm, cutting one of the straps.

The woman turned around, immediately trying to grab the bag back, and the two began to tussle. The attacker — described as approximately 45 years old, 6 feet tall and 175 pounds — pushed the woman to the ground as they fought over the bag, but she refused to let go — and the man soon gave up, dropping the bag and running off, police said.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS or for Spanish 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers Website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or texting their tips to 274637(CRIMES) then enter TIP577.
