JACKSON HEIGHTS — Officials celebrated the grand opening of a new two-story Wendy's near Diversity Plaza, which features free Wi-Fi, a faux fireplace and a soda machine that lets you create more than 100 combinations.

The fast-food chain, which has another location nearby on 69th Street and Northern Boulevard, was celebrated with a ribbon cutting outside the restaurant at 73rd Street and Broadway.

It's a state-of-the-art design, according to Lou Meyer, vice president of The Briad Restaurant Group, which is in charge of 22 Wendy's restaurants in New York City.

They were drawn to the location because it's in the center of nearly everything, Meyer said.

"Everything from a community standpoint is here," he said. "This is the perfect location."

There's ample seating inside, including large booths and high tables along the windows, free Wi-Fi, and multiple outlets for charging.

The ground floor also has a cozy booth with a faux fireplace that can emit heat in the winter.

For adventurous diners, there's a modern soda machine that allows you to mix and match flavors and soft drinks with the press of a button.

Fries also stay hot but not soggy with a "hot air induction" heater. And the the bacon for sandwiches is cooked in its own self-cleaning oven, Meyer said.

Tom Grech, the executive director of the Queens Chamber of Commerce, said the opening was welcome news for the borough and Jackson Heights.

The owners have committed to helping spruce up nearby Diversity Plaza, and at the opening donated $500 in gift cards to the chamber for events they run for children.

And since the restaurant's opening, they added 37 local people to the staff, Grech said.

"It's good to see a business like this make a commitment to Queens," he said.
