Thief Steals iPhone From Man Praying at Mosque, Police Say

By Eddie Small | December 5, 2016 12:08pm

MORRISANIA — A thief stole credit cards and an iPhone from a man praying at a South Bronx mosque, police said.

The 23-year-old victim was praying in the building at 3400 Third Ave. around 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 19 when the thief came in and snatched his iPhone, credit cards and other personal items from his jacket before fleeing, according to the NYPD.

Officers described the suspect as a roughly 38-year-old man who stands 5-foot-7 and weighs 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue jacket, blue jeans, white sneakers and a white baseball hat.

Surveillance video shows the suspect walking around and taking off his jacket in the mosque. It's unclear why police didn't release details until two weeks after the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
