COLUMBUS CIRCLE — A "turned up" subway passenger brandishing a knife threatened to cut another straphanger after the two got into an argument, the NYPD said.
Edgaldo Rodriguez, 28, was riding an uptown D train that had pulled into the 59th Street-Columbus Circle subway station around 1:10 a.m. Saturday when he and a 43-year-old man started arguing, police and a complaint filed with the Manhattan District Attorney’s office said.
At some point during the argument, Rodriguez pulled out a knife and waved it in the 43-year-old’s face, police and the DA’s office said.
“I am turned up, and I will cut you,” Rodriguez told the man, according to the complaint.
The police officer who arrested Rodriguez found a steak knife in his front right pants pocket, the complaint said.
Rodriguez was charged with menacing and criminal possession of a weapon, and was released from jail on Sunday after paying bail, which was set at $500, according to the DA’s office and city Department of Correction records.
He is next expected to appear in court Thursday.
An attorney for Rodriguez did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday.
