MANHATTAN — As the holidays approach New Yorkers are braving the cold and crowds to get their hands on a pair of Snapchat sunglasses while they still can.

Spectacles — sunglasses that lets users record video with a click of a button and then share it to their Snapchat account — are being sold from a yellow vending machine inside an empty storefront across from the Fifth Avenue Apple store until Dec. 31, according to its website.

The $130 glasses, which come in black, teal and coral, debuted this fall, first in California, then in Oklahoma, and as of Monday morning, New York City at 5 E. 59th St.

The pop-up will be open Monday through Friday from 4 to 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. to noon on Saturdays and Sundays.

Videos posted on social media show a line to the store wrapping around the block.

The shades are a hit for their ability to capture a first-person account of the wearer's experiences while being quite fashionable. The circular video that is captured plays full screen on any device, in any orientation, and captures the human perspective with a 115 degree field of view, according to Snapchat's website.

Spectacles cannot be bought online, but some people have been selling them on Ebay for $350 to $1,000.

The store will be open through New Year's Eve, but will be closed on holidays.

Snapchat did not immediately return a request for comment on Tuesday.
