STATEN ISLAND — A man was arrested Thursday for not paying hundreds of Outerbridge Crossing tolls and now has to pay nearly $21,000, Port Authority officials said.

James Clicerio, a 59-year-old from New Jersey, made 323 trips across the Staten Island bridge using five different E-ZPass accounts without paying the tolls, according to Port Authority Police spokesman Joseph Pentangelo.

Officer Ed Benenati spotted Clicerio in the bridge's toll plaza about 7 a.m. Thursday and pulled him over, Pentangelo said.

Benenati found that Clicerio has the multiple E-ZPass accounts and arrested him for larceny and obstructing governmental administration, the PAPD said.

Clicerio ultimately owed $4,719 in tolls, but the fees on those topped out at $16,150, bringing his debt up to $20,869, police said.
