EAST ELMHURST — The neighborhood's library will be closed for three months to build a 4,500-square-foot addition, Queens Library officials said.
The long-delayed construction — which Councilwoman Julissa Ferreras-Copeland slammed at a budget hearing last spring over the wait — is about to begin its "most disruptive" work, forcing a temporary closure.
It will close on Wednesday, Nov. 23 at 6 p.m. with limited mobile library access every Friday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. starting Dec. 2, officials said.
The new addition will offer extra space and a multi-purpose meeting room for the one-story library, and is funded with $8.9 million in city funds.
During renovations, guests are also encouraged to visit nearby libraries including the Langston Hughes, Corona and Jackson Heights branches.
