MANHATTAN — A volunteer auxiliary NYPD officer stalked a woman, lied about being a police officer, and made threats to hurt her, according to a police report.

Keith Cedeno, 45, of Queens, sent repeated, unwanted text messages to the 28-year-old victim starting on Sept. 29, and continued to harass her well into October even after she told him to stop contacting her, police said.

The woman, who lives in Manhattan, told officers she feared for her safety because she thought Cedeno was an NYPD officer, when in fact he is a member of the Auxiliary Police, whose members are trained by the NYPD to perform community patrols and traffic control, but who are unarmed and unpaid, according to a police report.

Police arrested Cedeno on Nov. 9, and prosecutors charged him with fourth degree stalking, records show. A judge released him without bail, and he’s due back in court on Dec. 20, according to a spokeswoman for the Manhattan District Attorney’s office.

A lawyer for Cedeno did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Representatives of the NYPD did not respond to multiple requests for comment about Cedeno’s record as an auxiliary volunteer or his current status following the arrest.
