DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN — A tourist turnstile jumper who beat up a transit officer he thought was a police impersonator won't face any jail time under a plea deal.

Alexander Telinde, 21, who was visiting the city from Virginia on April 12, pleaded guilty to assault and was sentenced Monday to serve three years probation.

Telinde's attorney James Keneally declined to comment further following the proceeding.

In April, Telinde jumped a turnstile at the Morgan Street station and was approached by a transit officer who tried to arrest him, according to prosecutors and police. He was with his girlfriend Emily Weber, 20, and the pair didn't belive the officer was real, officials said.

"You're not real cops. Those are fake badges," she said, according to police.

"This shield? Anybody can get this shield," Telinde said, according to court records.

Telinde used the officer's own nightstick to hit him over the head, on his right eye, lips and both knees, officials said.

He yanked the man's shield, which was dangling around his neck, causing the man to choke, according to prosecutors.

Weber punched the officer in the face and tried to run away down the platform, police said.

The District Attorney's office earlier dropped felony charges against her and in September she pleaded guilty to attempted assault.

She is due back in court for sentencing on Dec. 16, according to court records.
