NEW YORK — The funeral for slain NYPD Sgt. Paul Tuozzolo, who was fatally shot on Friday afternoon, will take place Thursday at 11 a.m. on Long Island.

Manuel Rosales, 35, fatally shot Tuozzolo on Friday after the gunman broke into his estranged wife's home by Beach Avenue and Merrill Street, sources said.

The confrontation happened nearby at 1575 Noble Ave., where Rosales shot Tuozzolo in the head and wounded Sgt. Emmanuel Kwo by shooting him in the leg, sources said.

Several officers then opened fire on Rosales, hitting him several times and killing him, sources said.

Tuozzolo had been on the force for 19 years and lived with his wife and two children in Suffolk County. Sergeants Benevolent Association President Ed Mullins described him as "a great guy, just an unbelievably nice guy."

The funeral for Tuozzolo will take place on Nov. 10 at 11 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima church, 2 Bayview Ave. in Massapequa, Long Island.

A vigil for Tuozzolois scheduled for Monday at 7 p.m. at the 43rd Precinct, and his wake will be held at Fredrick J. Chapey & Sons Funeral Home in Bethpage on Nov. 9 from 2 to 4:30 p.m. and again from 7 to 9:30 p.m.

The Sergeants Benevolent Association launched a fundraising campaign Saturday for Tuozzolo's children with the goal of raising $100,000 to support education for his 3- and 4-year-old sons. It has raised $69,055 so far.

Answer the Call, the New York Police and Fire Widows' and Children's Benefit Fund, will distribute $25,000 to Tuozzolo's widow as well.
