MELROSE — The 17-year-old suspect whose stray bullet killed a woman on East 154th Street has been arrested, police said.

Orlando Oquendo was chasing an unidentified man down Courtlandt Avenue Wednesday around 12:55 p.m. when he fired a round from his gun, hitting 45-year-old Maribel Cavero-Reyes in the chest while she stood in front of 422 E. 154th St., according to the NYPD.

Cavero-Reyes was taken to Lincoln Hospital and pronounced dead, police said. Oquendo fled west down Courtlandt Avenue after the shooting.

Oquendo, from Melrose, was arrested Friday afternoon and was charged with murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

Officials were investigating why the teen was chasing someone before the fatal shooting and do not believe he knew Cavero-Reyes, according to police.
