CROWN HEIGHTS — A homeless man was fatally shot in the face during an argument on Eastern Parkway Tuesday night, locals and police said.
The 31-year-old man, whose name wasn't immediately released, was gunned down by a man dressed in all black at Lincoln Place about 8:50 p.m., NYPD officials said.
The victim was hit in the face and buttocks and pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Reverend Ace Pettaway, 69, saw the man lying in the street right after the gunfire, he said.
"I just couldn't understand it. He said 'Hi' to me [yesterday morning]. The next thing I know, they were putting a blanket over him," said Pettaway of the Universal Temple Church of God nearby.
The man had lived at a nearby homeless shelter and Pettaway had told him to be careful with the potentially dangerous people who also lived there.
"He was very nice. [He] didn't bother nobody," Pettaway said.
The suspect fled the scene and hadn't been arrested as of Wednesday morning, they added.
By 11:30 a.m., a city worker covered the bloodied asphalt with sawdust. Some turned pink as the blood seeped through before the worker swept it away.
