
UNION SQUARE — A subway bandit swiped a cellphone and wallet on an L train, then used a stolen credit card to buy stuff at a pair of pharmacies, according to police.
The victim, a 24-year-old man, was on an Eighth Avenue-bound L train near Union Square at about 4:30 a.m. on Oct. 1, when his cellphone and wallet disappeared, police said.
The man soon noticed his belongings were missing and contacted his bank, only to learn that the culprit had made more than $1,000 in unauthorized purchases at a Duane Reade located at Broadway and West 40th Street and a Duane Reade on Seventh Avenue between West 28th and West 29th streets, police said.
The male suspect, captured on security cameras at one of the pharmacies, was last seen wearing a striped shirt, black jeans, and black sneakers.
