JACKSON HEIGHTS — The Newtown Literary Alliance is hosting free writing classes at libraries across the borough.

The two-hour classes will be held the first Saturday of every month starting in November, and will be held at the Jackson Heights, Maspeth, Ridgewood and Elmhurst branches.

They're open to anyone, regardless of experience, and will focus on a variety of styles and techniques — from poetry to memoir writing.

And the classes are free, thanks to support from the city council, organizers said.

Newtown Literary Alliance founder Tim Fredrick said they want to host classes that are accessible to anyone, regardless of income.

"We think it’s important for opportunities to engage in creative writing (and all art) [to] be open to everyone no matter their income level or location," he said in an email.

Local writers will teach the classes, and in the spring, the program will be expanded with teen and kid classes, he said.

To take part, just show up; no RSVP or tickets are necessary. Check with individual libraries for class schedules.
