UPPER WEST SIDE — An East Village-based Korean fried chicken restaurant is opening a second outpost on Amsterdam Avenue.

Boka will open at 410 Amsterdam Ave., between West 79th and 80th streets, in March, owner James Lim said. The space formerly housed the wine bar Tolani, which shuttered in July of 2015 and has remained vacant since.

The menu at the new location will be the same as at the original Boka at 9 St. Mark's Place between Second and Third avenues, he told Community Board 7 members Wednesday.

It serves Korean staples like bibimbap, kimchi pancakes and skewers called kkochi. Its fried chicken has been described as "cracklike."

The restaurant is also known for serving the popular Korean drink soju from a carved-out watermelon.

The new Boka will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday and until 3 a.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Community Board 7's Business and Consumer Issues Committee approved the restaurant's liquor license application, with members noting that the neighborhood needs a Korean restaurant.
