QUEENS — A man who shot at two police officers who were chasing him in 2014 was convicted of attempted murder on Tuesday, the Queens District Attorney said.

Christian Mosquera, 22, of Corona, faces up to 40 years in prison for firing a pistol at officers in Elmhurst on June 21, 2014, District Attorney Richard Brown said in a statement.

The two officers heard gunshots while on patrol around 1:45 a.m. and arrived at the corner of Lamont Avenue and 94th Street in time to witness Mosquera shooting at an unidentified person he was chasing down the avenue, according to the DA.

The officers ordered Mosquera to drop his gun but he turned, fired a single shot and fled the scene, the DA said.

A .22-caliber Ruger Mark 1 pistol was recovered at the scene, said the DA.

Mosquera was arrested in Union City, New Jersey, less than a week later.

Mosquera, an admitted member of the Any Body Killer gang, allegedly told Union City police that he had not shot at the officers but only at the person he was pursuing.

A jury found Mosquera guilty of attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon after a day of deliberating following his two-week-long trial.

Mosquero is expected to be sentenced on Nov. 7 in Queens Supreme Court.

His attorney was not immediately available to comment.
