Fire-Ravaged Bruson Building in Home Stretch to Reopen

By Katie Honan | October 24, 2016 4:39pm

JACKSON HEIGHTS — The owners of the Bruson Building — which has remained empty since a large fire ripped through it in April 2014 — are finally in the home stretch of reopening, they said.

Craig Bruno, a member of The Bruno Family Trust which owns the building, said they're in the process of getting a certificate of occupancy — and will hopefully have more news on future tenants soon.

They're currently replacing the sidewalk around the building on 37th Avenue between 74th and 75th streets, which the city required, he said.

While he had hoped to let tenants move in by now, the major renovation — and city regulations — delayed things, he said.

"It's the City of New York — every time we think we're there, we hit another roadblock," Bruno said.

So far the only confirmed tenant is Habib Bank, which was announced in November 2015.

And while he had said in the past they would love a fast-food chain or other large business in the building, they're keeping their options open.

"We have a whole list of tenants we're going to consider," he said, although he remained mum about who might make the list. "We're open to anybody and everybody."
