Braised-Goat 'Chupacabra' Returns to Menu at New DUMBO Sandwich Shop

DUMBO — The mythical Chupacabra is back — but there's no need to run screaming.

Manhattan-based Untamed Sandwiches is bringing back its former best-selling sandwich — dubbed the Chupacabra for its combination of red wine-braised goat, roast chermoula carrots, kohlrabi slaw, red onion and whipped goat cheese — exclusively to its new location at 117 Adams St.

The vegetarian-friendly sandwich shop, known for its braised meats and seasonal vegetable selection, will be opening Nov. 3 at the “Dumbo Heights” campus, a tech hub that’s home to such companies as Etsy and WeWork.

Untamed Sandwiches will join other eateries like Bluestone Lane, Taco Dumbo and Dig Inn.

Like its Manhattan location, the menu will feature a rotating list of sandwiches and salads, including the General Zapata (chicken tinga, queso fresco, pickled onions, pickled jalapenos, cilantro and radishes); the Little Neck (braised lamb neck, walnut nettle pesto, gruyere cheese, pickled spring onions and charred onion tops) and the Sheemakers Bounty (charred broccoli, fried almond butter, pickled raisin jelly and cress).

To celebrate the store’s opening, Untamed will be handing out gluten-free cookie gelato pops with every meal.

Founders Andrew Jacobi and Ricky King opened Untamed’s original Bryant Park location in 2014, focusing on 100 percent sustainable ingredients. All of the meat served at the shop is free-range, grass-fed, and hormone- and antibiotic-free. Vegetables are locally raised, mostly organic and antibiotic-free.

The new shop will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
