Drink Your Apple a Day With Cider Week NYC

Fall isn't just for hot apple cider and apple cider donuts.

Cider Week New York City is celebrating New York State's local cider makers, which jumped from eight in October 2014 to 24 today, according to Gov. Andrew Cuomo's office.

The sixth annual Cider Week NYC actually runs 10 days from Oct. 21 to 30 with a lineup of tastings, dinners and classes in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. 

A full list of events is available here, but we've rounded up a few highlights to get you started in your cider sampling.

Cheese and Cider with Bad Seed Cider!

When: Friday, Oct. 21, 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Where: Bedford Cheese Shop, 67 Irving Place, Union Square
Cost: $75

This event kicks off Cider Week NYC with strong, dry cider from Bad Seed Cider and seasonal cheese from Bedford Cheese Shop.

Cider Week Kick Off Party

When: Friday, Oct. 21, all day
Where: Beer Street, 413 Graham Ave., Williamsburg
Cost: Pay as you go

Pay as you try ciders from Good Life, Eden, Descendant, and Aaron Burr. Since the cider-makers will be pouring, you might even learn a thing or two about the drink.

Porktoberfest

When: Saturday, Oct. 22, 12 to 4 p.m.
Where: Solar One, 24-20 FDR Drive Service Road East, Stuy Town
Cost: $55

Discerning chefs will tell you that pork and apples just go together. More than 10 chefs will serve up food for you to chow down on. Then you can wash it down all down with more than 20 ciders or craft beers. There will also be plenty of vegetarian-friendly sides.

Cider 101

When: Sunday, Oct. 23, 2 p.m.
Where: The Wine Lab, 1000 Dean St., Crown Heights
Cost: $45

Learn while you drink. This class will introduce you to the different varieties of cider, how they're produced, and how to serve them. 

 Cideraritas

When: Monday, Oct. 24, staring at 4 p.m.
Where: Taproom 307, 307 Third Ave., Kips Bay
Cost: $7 margaritas and $4 tacos

Try an inventive twist on margaritas in honor of Cider Week NYC.

Meet the Maker Happy Hour With Steve Selin/South Hill Cider

When: Tuesday, Oct. 25, 5 to 7 p.m.
Where: Murray's Cheese Bar, 264 Bleecker St., West Village

Meet Steve Selin from South Hill Cider and sample three of his ciders. There will be cheese and snacks to nibble on while you're learning about the drinks.

Cider and Chocolate Pairing

When: Wednesday, Oct. 26, 7 to 10 p.m.
Where: Raaka Chocolate Factory, 64 Seabring St., Red Hook
Cost: $10

Try to "trifecta of tastiness: cider, chocolate and cheese" with Descendant Cider Co. and Raaka Chocolate Factory's tasting. Murray's Cheese Shop will also be represented at this event.

Cider is Wine! Feast-Style Dinner

When: Thursday, Oct. 26, 6:30 to 10:15 p.m., various seatings
Where: The Queens Kickshaw, 40-17 Broadway, Astoria
Cost: $65

Enjoy a four course meal from Queens Kickshaw, as each dish is paired with a different cider from the Finger Lakes and Hudson Valley region.

Jazz and Cider Night

When: Friday, Oct. 28, 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Where: The Bronx Beer Hall, 2344 Arthur Ave., Belmont

Chill out with some cider and cool tunes. Nine Pin Cider will be in the spotlight at this jazz-filled night.

So You Want to Start Your Own Cidery

When: Saturday, Oct. 29
Where: Wassail, 162 Orchard St., Lower East Side
Cost: $25

Learn what's in store if you love cider so much your dream is opening your own cidery. Seth Jones from East Hollow Cider will tell his story including all the trials and tribulations. Attorney Lindsey Zahn who specializes in alcohol, beverage and food regulation will also be on hand to answer questions.
