RED HOOK — Local favorite Irish bar Rocky Sullivan's is closing the doors next week after almost a decade on Van Dyke Street.

"As many of you are aware we are being forcibly removed from our current location at the end of this month," the tavern's operators said on Facebook on Wednesday afternoon. Rocky Sullivan's will hold its last call Thursday, Oct. 27.

The owner of the building did not immediately return an email seeking comment.

The bar began its life in Manhattan at Lexington Avenue and 29th Street in 1996 before moving to 34 Van Dyke St. in Red Hook in July 2007.

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our customers for your patronage over the last 21 years," the Facebook post continued. "We would like to especially thank all of you who have offered assistance to us in our present circumstances."

The Rocky Sullivan team is moving down the street to 44-46 Beard St. across the street from IKEA.

The closure was confirmed by a man who answered the phone at the bar on Wednesday.

But a piece of Rocky Sullivan's will live on down the street from its current space. The team behind the bar will be moving to 44-46 Beard St., according to Gregory O'Connell, the property's landlord. Built sometime in the 1880s, earlier tenants include the popular to dive bar Lillie's.

Plans for the new venture remain unclear.
