BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — Brooklyn Bridge Park moved one step closer to completion after officials broke ground Wednesday on Pier 3 — the park’s last undeveloped pier.

Pier 3, which is slated to become parkland, is slated for completion in the spring of 2018 thanks to $26 million of capital funding from this year’s city budget, according to the mayor’s office.

The 5-acre pier will include a large central lawn, a recreation and programming area, and a “play labyrinth” for all ages that will highlight historic elements from the waterfront.

The labyrinth will be created from salvaged bollards and rail ties, and there will be a series of mirrors and tubes that kids can use to talk to each other, according to the Daily News.

The park, which first opened in 2010, is now 90 percent finished or under construction.

The Pier 3 groundbreaking marks the final undertaking for outgoing park president Regina Myer, who was tapped last month to lead the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership after nine years at the helm.

“Breaking ground on Pier 3 marks a landmark achievement: the final major stage of construction to get underway at Brooklyn Bridge Park," Myer said.

"A decade ago, our 85 acres were still a barren stretch of industrial wasteland. Today, 330,000 visitors enjoy our waterfront every week and now they’ll have Pier 3 — a beautiful central lawn and a fabulous play space that will transform this five acre concrete platform. I couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve achieved here.”

Pier 3 was designed by Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, along with the rest of the 85-acre park.
