That was not the first time the mayor has generated headlines for his mode of transportation.

Right after he took office in February 2014, an NYPD detective was spotted speeding through red lights as she drove the mayor across the city. The incident occurred just days after he announced his Vision Zero plan to improve traffic safety. The detective was promoted two years later.

Who could forget when de Blasio was half an hour late to a memorial service for victims of Flight 587 in November 2014 because he said his boat got lost in the fog? Then it turned out he was 30 minutes late to the boat because he had a rough night and was feeling "sluggish."

Then there was the time, also in November 2014, when the mayor made an entire JetBlue flight to Puerto Rico wait for him before it could take off.
