BROOKLYN — Police rereleased a sketch Tuesday of a newborn girl who was strangled with a dish towel more than 20 years ago in the hope a witness might finally come forward, an NYPD spokeswoman said.

The baby was found in a trash bag with a towel tied around her neck in the courtyard of 346 Montgomery St. in Crown Heights on Nov. 8, 1993, according to police.

Investigators believe the child had been thrown from the building, sources said, adding that the umbilical cord was still attached when she was found.

The case was never solved and remained opened.

Investigators now hope that someone who knew the child may finally come forward.

Police cracked the 20-plus-year Baby Hope case after they recirculated a sketch of the child, which led to a tipster coming forward and leading them to the girl's mother.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).  The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at www.nypdcrimestoppers.com
