BROOKLYN — A Bronx man was shot in the leg by police in Brownsville Friday night after opening fire on three detectives, police said.
Kowon Davis, 44, of Fordham Heights, was driving southbound in a black Lexus sedan on Howard Avenue when he stopped in front of 656 Howard about 10:45 p.m. Friday, near a large group of people, police said.
Three detectives driving an unmarked car behind the Lexus saw Davis get out of the car and approach the group with a gun in his hand, according to the NYPD.
The three plainclothes detectives, from the NYPD's Brooklyn North gang squad, exited their car, yelling "police, don't move," according to the NYPD. Davis fired his gun at the detectives, who then returned fire, hitting the man in the leg before he ran off, police said.
He was arrested less than a block away on Sutter Avenue between Howard Avenue and Grafton Street, and a gun was recovered at the scene, according to police.
Davis was taken to Brookdale Hospital in stable condition. The three detectives were unharmed, but taken to Jamaica Hospital for observation, police said.
Davis was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and menacing a police officer, the NYPD said.
