NEW DORP — A man was hit with assault and weapons charges after he accidentally shot his friend in the head while they were playing with handguns inside a Staten Island home, prosecutors said.

Thomas Dembinski, 18, was with his friend Stephino Ross, 23, inside a Cannon Boulevard home, near New Dorp Plaza, on Sunday when Ross started to show him different guns, according to court documents.

“He showed me a 9mm Glock and a baby Glock,” Dembinski told police, according to court documents. “Then he showed me a little pocket pistol, almost like a mini Beretta kind of thing.”

Dembinski told police he took the magazine out of the pistol, cocked the slide and thought the round ejected from the gun. The two continued to talk and Dembinski pulled the trigger, accidentally shooting Ross in the side of the head at about 6:30 p.m., prosecutors said.
