A Train Delayed After Gas Leak Causes Evacuations, Officials Say

By Kathleen Culliton | October 3, 2016 12:14pm | Updated on October 3, 2016 5:57pm

OZONE PARK — A gas leak in a multi-residence building caused train delays on the A line and several buildings to be evacuated Monday morning, authorities said.

The gas leak at 118-06 Liberty Ave. near 118th Street was reported around 7:45 a.m., according to the FDNY.

The surrounding buildings were evacuated and local A train service was suspended in both directions as firefighters as well as Consolidated Edison and National Grid operators investigated the situation, according to the MTA and the FDNY.

The source of the leak was found on the main line and was repaired without interruption to gas service or injuries reported by 4 p.m., said a National Grid spokeswoman.

A train service between Rockaway Boulevard and Ozone Park-Lefferts Boulevard resumed service in both directions around noon with residual delays, the MTA said in an alert on its website.

Forty ConEd customers in the area had their power temporarily shut off as investigators worked on the scene, according to a Con Ed spokeswoman.
